Brynne Pettit helped Iowa-Grant to a 12-2 win over Prairie du Chien in the first game of the I-G tourney Saturday, setting the stage for a two game sweep with a win over Highland in game two.
Pettit surrendered one hit and two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out six and walking none.
Iowa-Grant piled up 10 hits in the game. Presley Lehman led them with four runs batted in. The right fielder went 1-for-3 on the day with a triple. Quinn Hoeper, Pajessa Baker, and Ava Klaas each two hits for the Panthers.
Carley Shores, Pettit and Trinity Baker all had one hit. Baker’s went for a triple while Pettit and Shores had doubles.
Panthers vs Cardinals
Iowa-Grant got past Highland in the second game Saturday scoring the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the sixth .
The runs scored on a wild pitch to tie and a grounder by Carley Shores for the win.
Panthers hurler Quinn Hoeper got the win, outlasting Sumaryn Halverson for the Cardinals. The two runs off Hoeper were unearned. Only one of the runs off Halverson was earned. Hoeper struck out eight, while Halverson sat down three.
The Panthers were the first to get on the board in the fourth when Shores singled to drive in a run.
The Cardinals took a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth after Iowa-Grant committed an error and Celia Oleson grounded into a fielder’s choice that plated a run.
Shores drove in two runs for the Panthers. The cleanup hitter went 1- for-3 on the day. Shores, Brynne Petit, and Pajessa Baker had the three hits for the Panthers.
Oleson led Highland with one run batted in. Brinleigh Bollant and Halverson each one hit for the Cardinals.
