Be aware of the wind towers

Dear Editor,

Many people are still unaware of the industrial wind turbine projects in the area. Following is information that I have pieced together to the best of my knowledge so some dates may be off.

Pattern Energy started soliciting landowners for easement contracts in 2020. During Covid they mostly went un-noticed. Pattern currently has 330 landowner contracts covering approximately 70,000 acres in Iowa, Lafayette and Grant counties. On January 23, 2026, they sent out their 90-day pre-application notice to landowners within 1 mile of the project. Pattern Energy submitted their engineering plan to the Wisconsin Public Service Commission (PSC) on 3/13/26. You can view this plan on the PSC website under docket #9840- CE-100. Pattern must apply to the PSC for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) to build this project. They can apply for the CPCN as early as 5/13/26. The PSC can take up to a year to approve this. We encourage people to write letters to the PSC and their lawmakers. Once Pattern has applied, you can submit letters and even sign up to intervene. We need people to help intervene so we can make this procedure long and tedious for Pattern. Uplands Wind East is slated to be 300MW project.

The 90-day notice letter for Uplands Wind East included a map of 64 turbines. We have overlayed this map onto an interactive map available for the public on No-Uplands.com. Please take some time to review the map and other materials on this website. There is so much information available on the No-Uplands.com site. On the home page, across the top are links to different areas. One to look at is the “Reliable Resources” and wind turbine health articles.

Uplands Wind East encompasses the towns of Waldwick, Mineral Point, Linden, Dodgeville and Ridgeway in Iowa County and Fayette and Willow Springs in Lafayette County. Michael Goff, the Uplands Wind project manager, told several townships there will be 51 turbines as tall as 700′. There are several potential turbine sites just North and West of Yellowstone State Park with the majority slated for Waldwick and Mineral Point townships.

Town of Mineral Point slated 21 turbines and connection lines with 14 landowners.

Town of Waldwick – 16 turbines, connection lines and a substation with 17 landowners.

Town of Ridgeway – 2 turbines and connection lines with 2 landowners Town of Dodgeville- 4 turbines and connection lines with 6 landowners Town of Linden – 8 turbines, connection lines, and switch yard to connect to the ATC line with 18 landowners

Town of Fayette- 10 turbines and connection lines with 5 landowners Town of Willow Springs- 3 turbines and connection lines with 5 landowners

The Gen- Tie line will run approximately 18 miles from the substation near County DD and County DDD to the switchyard just East of Edmund. These overhead lines will be on steel poles up to 200′ tall. This line encompasses land easements from 25 landowners.
