The Dodgeville wrestling teams held our end of the season awards banquet at Hi Point Steak House on Saturday night. Members of the middle school wrestling team, the wrestling cheer team, the HS boys and girls team as well as our Hall of Fame inductee were each honored. Team award recipients are as follows: Most Valuable Wrestler for the boys is Haakon Peterson: Most Valuable for the girls are Mya Marklein and Jenna Johnson; Most Improved Wrestler for the boys is Logan Vondra; Most Improved Wrestler for the girls are Chloe Eastman and Brynnlin Cartwright; Most Pins Award for the boys is Nathan Johnson; Most Pins Award for the girls is Jenna Johnson;
Captains for the boys are Nathan Johnson, Haakon Peterson, Shane Rochon and Rhet Spurley; the Perseverance Award for the girls is Brielle Walmer.
We had seven wrestlers recognized by the National Wrestling Coaches Association as High School Scholar All-Americans which include Eli Brokopp, Aiden Duran, Chloe Eastman, Mya Marklein, Haakon Peterson, Shane Rochon and Isaac Vondra.
Brady Godfrey and Rhet Spurley were each recognized by the National Wrestling Coaches Association as High School Character and Leadership All-American Award recipients.
Jenna Johnson was recognized by Wrestling With the Outdoors as a recipient of a Leadership Scholarship. Jenna will attend a Leadership Summit this summer in Rifle Colorado with wrestling Hall of Fame members Dan Gable, Barry Davis and Ricky Bonomo along with many other top wrestling leaders and clinicians.
Dodgeville wrestling was also honored to recognize former coach Tim Wunnicke as our most recent inductee into the Dodgeville Wrestling
Hall of Fame. Tim was introduced by his sons Cole, TJ, Bobby, Trevor and Tyler. Many of Tim’s former wrestlers and other Hall of Fame members were in attendance to celebrate this well deserved honor with Tim and his family. Tim coached 7 wrestlers to 15 WIAA State titles over his coaching career in Ithaca and Dodgeville. Congratulation Tim!
