Iranian ‘Excursion’ Is a Travesty

Dear Editor,

As a frequent reader of op-eds and letters to the editor, I tend to appreciate those with a firm backing in facts, data, and credible sources; these all lend weight to an argument. Today, I am writing based on strictly on gut feeling and I would encourage any readers to consult their gut as well.

Does President Trump’s Iranian ‘excursion’ (read: war) make you feel any safer? Will your stomach sink whenever your car’s fuel gauge hovers near E, and you need to stop by the pump? Do thoughts of uncontrollable dictators, ready and willing to bomb a country into submission with no clear goal, fill you with dread or shame? Learning how much of our agriculture and modern society runs on gas, oil, and byproducts – all fluctuating at the whims of market forces you can’t control – does that worry you?

It is far past time to embrace a society free of those constraints. No dictator can control the sun rays hitting your solar panel; no petroking can stop the wind in your turbines; petty tyrants won’t stop your two legs pedaling your bike or abolish mass transit services. The current world order is built on fragile grounds and is crumbling before our eyes. Can we – will we – build something better? Sincerely,
