Panthers erupt in second to pull past Highland

Iowa-Grant overpowered Highland 13-1 in a non-conference baseball game Monday thanks in part to seven runs in the second inning.

Highland pitcher Griffin Wineski induced Panther Sam Lundell to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored. Everett Zimmer singled, scoring one run. Ayson Speth singled, scoring one run. Brody Lindner singled, scoring one run and an error scored one run. Will Fulton drew a walk, scoring one run, and Myles Pettit drew a walk, scoring one run. Iowa-Grant got on the board in the first inning after an error scored one run.

The Panthers extended their early lead with three runs in the bottom of the third thanks to an RBI single by Maddox Fisher.

Zimmer earned the win for Iowa- Grant. The starter gave up two hits and no runs over three innings, striking out six and walking two.

Wineski took the loss for the Cardinals. The pitcher went two-thirds of an inning, surrendering seven runs (four earned) on four hits, striking out none and walking five.

Jack Tarrell stepped on the mound first for the Cardinals. The starting pitcher surrendered zero hits and one run (zero earned) over one inning, striking out none and walking one. Lundell and Hayden Aultman each appeared in relief for Iowa-Grant.

Lindner provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Iowa-Grant with three runs batted in. The righthanded hitter went 2-for-3 on the day.

lowa-Grant had patience at the plate, tallying 11 walks for the game. Treaton Loeffelholz, Fulton, and Speth led the team with two free passes each. Pettit, Lundell, and Speth each stole multiple bases for Iowa-Grant.

The Panthers recorded 12 stolen bases for the game. Iowa-Grant didn’t commit a single error in the field. Fulton had the most chances with 11.

Tarrell led the Cardinals with one run batted in. The number three hitter went 2-for-3 on the day

Lindner was the top stat getter for I-G with a 2×3 day at the plate with three rbis.
