MUSCODA, WI – A century of tradition is meeting a new era of innovation. Today, the Meister family officially broke ground on the next major phase of the Nex-Gen expansion project, a state-of-the-art facility designed to propel Meister well into the future.
Founded in 1916 by Joseph Meister, Meister has long been a pillar of America’s Dairyland. Now, led by the fourth generation of the Meister family, this expansion marks the most significant investment in the company’s history. This milestone follows the successful completion of the project’s first foundational elements: a modern 6-bay intake facility and an addition to their cold storage building. These completed structures set the stage for the highly anticipated next phase of the project-the expansion of a world-class cheese plant and whey processing capabilities.
The project will dramatically increase cheesemaking capacity, allowing the company to meet the growing global demand for its award-winning cheese and whey products. This isn’t just about square footage; it’s about evolution. By integrating cutting-edge technology with time-honored techniques, the new facilities will enhance Meister’s ability to produce premium cheese for nationwide retail and food service partners.
“The Nex Gen plant is a major milestone in our 110-year history,” said Scott Meister, CEO of Meister. “This expansion allows us to grow our footprint in Muscoda while staying true to the quality and care that have defined our family business for four generations.”
Consistent with Meister’s industry leading environmental efforts – including their biomass energy systems – the new building will incorporate modern efficiencies to minimize its carbon footprint. Nex- Gen is also expected to provide a significant boost to the Muscoda economy, creating new opportunities for local farmers and workers alike.
Meister is proud to collaborate with a trusted network of local partners known for delivering high-quality, large-scale commercial and industrial projects throughout the region. Their collective expertise ensures that the facility will be built with efficiency, functionality, and future scalability at the forefront. Nex- Gen is estimated to be completed in early 2028.
