SHP NO KID SLEEPS ON THE FLOOR IN OUR TOWN!

Bedding

February found us having a very successful bedding drive, spearheaded and hosted by volunteer Jan Helmich, the UCC Plymouth Church and Merrimac and Main. Piles of bedding came in each week specially made and purchased for kiddos in our communities. We are blown away by the generosity our community continues to show us and are in awe what can be accomplished when the community comes together for a common purpose of meeting a need of a child or teen. Our hearts are full as you really came through for us.

It didn’t just stop at the end of February …

March was National Quilting Month, a month to celebrate quilts, quilters and quilting. The month celebrates the artistry, talent, love and hard work quilters put into their creations.

We have seen such an amazing outpouring of quilts and blankets stitched intricately with love and care showing up on our doorsteps. A special touch of craftsmanship with all the quilts that came into the bedding drive but that also continue to be dropped off and sent to us. The patterns and colors are so very bright, fun and magical for a child to display and snuggle under on their new very own bed. Thank you for your heartwarming part in helping us with this tender children’s bed initiative.

Wow it has been a year since we got approval to start the journey of bringing a new SHP Chapter to Iowa County. Do you remember our Q&A informational meeting we hosted for the community on March 20, 2025? Well, it made all the difference in our world. Because of all of your interest and support we were able to show the Nat’l SHP team that we had the backing of the community to move forward and not just a few team members that might try and take on too much themselves, burning out which wouldn’t do the kids, their families or the community any good.

So, Thank you for backing us and taking this amazing journey with us. Your support, enthusiasm, passion and dedication have really carried us through. We are doing great things together and making a difference in Iowa County.

April brings spring, sanding and another community build. We are so very grateful for the generous donations that continue to be gifted to us from churches, businesses, organizations and so many individuals. Because of this we are able to replenish some supplies, get a few more sanders and needed tools and the lumber to hold another community build. It will be our first build in 2026 and will be a spring bunk bed build on April 11th from 10-2 p.m. We will be working on building 10 bunk beds (20 beds with extra safety rails). The build will be at Mueller Implements/Rental again on YZ next to Farm & Fleet. Waivers need to be signed so please sign up with the online link https://x.gldn.io/BgKWuL08y1b or with the QR code. Thank you each and everyone of you. “The heart of a volunteer is never measured in size but by the depth of the commitment to make a difference in the lives of others.” – DeAnn Hollis.
