The Barneveld girls’ basketball team dominated their game against River Ridge in a WIAA Regional semi-final game on Friday night 73- 20 and advanced to Saturday’s game where they defeated Shullsburg 31- 18 to advance to the sectional semifinal game to be played this Thursday against Argyle/Pecatonica at Dodgeville High School.
Barneveld started the game on a 20-0 run. Nine players were able to score in the contest, as the Eagles were never threatened. Izzy Durst led Barneveld by scoring a gamehigh 21 points, followed by Erin Lasse with 16 and Hannah Esch poured in 12, nine of those points were from beyond the arc.
“We came out and played really well right from the start. Defensively we got some steals and some easy baskets and from then on I thought we did a really good job of passing the basketball and trying to find the open person, but I thought our defense was strong all night long even when we got out of the pressure,” said Barneveld Head Coach Jim Myers about the game.
“The kids work awful hard out there, just to give them the last 8-10 minutes where they didn’t have to play and get them ready for tomor-
row because we know its going to be a huge game for us, it was big, and it gave the JV kids, the kids we brought up some really good experience, so if they had to step in there, I think they learned quite a bit tonight,” he said.
“I was just really pleased, especially for our seniors. It was there last home game on this floor and how well they played tonight, and lets just see if we can take this a little further,” Myers added.
