Ridgeway – Bruce Paull – 608-341-8443

The first day of spring didn’t disappoint. The sun was bright, temperatures were up, and spring break started in many schools. The spring election is on April 7th, with the hope that if you complain, then you will participate in the process.

The Town of Ridgeway will have a “Public Test of Voting Equipment” on Monday, March 30th, at 5:00 p.m. at the Ridgeway Town Hall on Town Hall Road. This test/demonstration is open to the public.

The solid rumor is that Kub’s Den Bar & Grill will be open soon on Main Street in Ridgeway. With reliable information from different sources, the necessary paperwork is in place to move forward with the Brewskie’s on the Ridge building. Tara and Kevin have billed this as a new adventure to serve us and ask for our patience. The initial plan is April 1st.

The Village of Ridgeway recently passed a resolution concerning the 18/151 Corridor Study. The Village of Ridgeway pointed out that when 18/151 was upgraded to an expressway through Ridgeway, it was completed in such a manner that it bypassed and decimated the business district in the Village of Ridgeway. It was asked for improvements to the egress and ingress into Ridgeway.

Girls on the Run at Dodgeville Elementary School has openings for team members in 3rd -5th grades to join. Girls on the Run is evidencebased, as it makes a stronger impact than organized sports and physical education in teaching life skills. Financial assistance is available to any girl in 3rd-5th grades, from any address, or if home-schooled. The season ends on May 30th with a 5K Fun Run. If just curious, girlsontherunscwi.org with no obligation to take a look. Thank you

On Facebook, “Yes to Kids in Dodgeville Schools,” recently had a short but great read on Kaela Wohl. Kaela graduated with the Class of 1999 and recently returned to live in the area with a resume that started at Dodgeville Schools. Kaela’s brother, Jonathan Wohl, is also a graduate of Dodgeville Schools and owns and operates Edward Wohl Studio, and is part of the Fall Art Tour happening in October.

The Iowa County Board recently listened to a lengthy presentation about the 7/800 MHZ radio system that the State of Wisconsin wants Iowa County to buy into at a price of $12 million. After the presentation, I engaged one of the presenters in a short conversation comparing school funding with a radio system. She suggested that the legislators in Madison need to be lobbied. I said we have been asking for school funding changes for several years.

The radio upgrade question remains as to what federal or state funding is actually available. The estimated cost for just the Ridgeway Fire Department is $280,000. This dollar amount would be required to upgrade to dual-band radios on a very short timeline if Iowa County switches over to the 7/800 MHZ. The surrounding counties are not switching over to 7/800 MHZ which would leave Iowa County as an island for radio signals. In the future, the State of Wisconsin could actually start to charge a subscriber fee for the necessary licenses for the new radio system.

On Thursday, the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament started. Donna is the sports fan at home. She has been known to yell at the television on occasion. Thursday was one, not because of the Badgers, but because of the high-definition digital television signal. The picture on the over-theair was pixelated, so she was not able to watch. Before digital television, we had analog, with no problem getting a great signal. They made us switch to digital and purchase a descrambler. Then it was a new television which still has, at times and stations, no signal or a pixelated picture.

It was pointed out to me on International Women’s Day that it seems that the only two women who will listen to a man are SIRI and ALEXA. I don’t have that technology at our house. When I talk to Donna, I find that many times I get a frown, then I do what I am voluntold.
