Dear Editor,
The thing about the wind turbines is that they make some people sick. Actually physically ill. Let’s say you are one of those people who get dizzy on merry-go-rounds or get nauseous riding in the back seat of a car on a curvy road. And let’s say your house is downwind from a wind turbine when the wind is blowing. When those huge blades pass the post, nasty little low frequency sound waves that you can’t hear bounce off the post and then run right through your house.
Or at least you think you can’t hear them. Your outer ear can’t hear them. But your inner ear can. It’s this little organ deep inside, half of which deals with hearing and the other half that deals with balance. Both halves share the same neural pathway to the brain. Both the inner ear and the outer ear send messages to the brain. When they conflict, the brain is unhappy. It lets the balance part of the inner ear know that it’s not happy with the information it got. And then you get sick.
My wife and I both are some of those people that are affected by those nasty little low frequency sound waves. They are called infrasound. I get dizzy and can’t walk a straight line. She throws up.
