DHS Confirms Cases of Measles in Iowa and Lafayette Counties

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), Iowa County Health Department, and Lafayette County Health Department have confirmed two cases of measles through testing at the Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene; one in a resident of Iowa County and one in a resident of Lafayette County. These are the third and fourth cases of measles confirmed in Wisconsin so far in 2026 and are not related to any of the previously confirmed cases.

The cases are believed to have been exposed in Wisconsin, suggesting there may be additional measles cases in communities that have not yet been identified. Not everyone who becomes sick seeks medical care or is tested for measles, which means public health agencies and health care providers may not be aware of every case in a community.

The investigation is ongoing and public health officials are working to identify and notify people who may have been exposed to the measles virus. At this time, no public exposure locations have been identified in connection with this case. If public exposure locations are identified, they will be shared broadly and listed on the DHS Outbreaks and Investigations page. Due to privacy concerns, no additional personal identifying or health information will be released by DHS.
