Join “No Kings” rally Saturday
Dear Editor,
People are peacefully protesting on Saturday March 28th because people are not only discontent with our current administration but they are protesting out of responsibility!
The United States was never meant to have rulers above the law. “Our system depends on something more powerful—-the idea that the government answers to the people, not the other way around “—Kelli Klymenko. When a government behaves above the law as they have been doing for over a year now, we must speak out. The overreaching is daily. The most recent overreach is starting a war with Iran without congressional approval. For a good list of the issues we are facing, check out 5calls.org. 5Calls describes current issues and bills that are at different stages of becoming legislation. You might find an issue that motivates you to join this national day of peaceful protest. As a responsible citizen we need to fight for our great democracy and our rights within it.
There are over 3,000 peaceful protests planned in every state of America on March 28th. And over 150 organizations sponsoring. These rallies are organized with trained peacekeepers in coordination with local police and community leaders. This level of protesting is a serious indication that something is grossly wrong in our government. This administration is NOT listening to the majority of its citizens. It continues deliberate disinformation campaigns now pressuring content on major news channels and threatening our free press. Pending bills are designed to suppress votes (SAVE Act) and create unfair redistricting maps. Gestapo style management of immigration (ICE) continues. People are living paycheck to paycheck while helpful benefits are cut and costs continue rising. And Congress passively follows the criminal, cruel and incompetence of those in charge.
This is not the American system or leadership I recognize. America, though not perfect, aspires to care for its citizens and works to continuously improve our way of life, as well as lend aid and support worldwide. Our role as a nation is in danger. Democracy is in danger. Human rights are in danger. American elected Leadership is expected to be ethical or be impeached, resign or voted out. Why isn’t that happening? American Elected Leadership is expected to represent all Americans not just a small segment whose goals are to line their own pockets. Why is this happening? This behavior can not be normalized. It is OUR job to hold this administration, the House and Congress accountable!
This is big folks! This day of protest is as significant as Women’s Suffrage, Civil Rights, Ending the War in Vietnam, Women’s March, Black Lives Matter, Earth Day, and so many more. These rightful assemblies have changed legislation, effected the direction of our nation and defined our values as Americans. I am proud of the American democratic experiment now 250 years old this year! I want to retain are democracy. Do you? Our founding fathers have created “a government of the people, by the people and for the people”- President Abraham Lincoln. Let’s get busy. Let’s make it clear:
No Kings! No Strongmen! No one above the Law!
Join a rally somewhere! We will be gathering in Dodgeville. Courthouse parking lot. Saturday March 28th. 10:00am-noon. You’ll find Inspiring speakers! Music! Camaraderie! Everyone is welcome. Let’s joyously and peacefully celebrate 250 years without Kings! You matter!
