Fairness in Primaries Builds Trust in Democracy
Dear Editor,
Tammy Baldwin: Common sense and common courtesy could be the beginning of Election Reform in Wisconsin.
Emily Berge and Rebecca Cooke share the Democratic Primary ballot for the 3rd Congresional District in Wisconsin equally on August 11, 2026. However, only one candidate is getting the coveted endorsements of Tammy Baldwin, Bernie Sanders, and a list of Democrat party big wigs; only one candidate is getting money and campaign help from the DCCC--the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee; only one candidate is deemed "good at raising money" and "needed in Washington to support the Democratic Agenda."
Shouldn't Democratic Party members have the courtesy and common sense to support both candidates and let the people of western Wisconsin decide who should be on the ballot to run against the Republican incumbent?
A retraction by Tammy Baldwin and others could go a long way toward the need for election reform. Stand up for the people of Wisconsin. It's our right to choose--that's simple democracy.
