Along The Ad Routes

We need more chefs that want to make grilled cheese specialties for the April 25th Wisconsin Grilled Cheese Championships that will be held right her in Dodgeville - at Harris Pari, inside of Ley Pavilion. The number of entries depict how many VIP tickets that can be sold. There’s a lot of work and cost to make this event happen. Please volunteer your time for some of it and if you can cook, that’d be great! I can’t cook, but I have been a part of it since it was moved to Dodgeville and it is a great day with a lot of fun for the entire family. It starts at 11:00 a.m. and goes until 4:00 p.m.

Another event happening that same day is the Annual Dodgeville Garage Sales throughout the entire community. People can sign up for it at the Dodgeville Chronicle to be placed on the map and can also run an ad in our paper!

Saturday morning breakfast took us a little ways to the north. We went on Highway 23 to Highway 14 and ended up at Anita’s Cafe. Sofit was behind the counter when we walked in. I asked him if he was the waitstaff today and ordered three coffees and water and two waters! He chuckled a little and said there are better waitstaff than him there! It was Bob, Terry, Tom, Potsie, Royce and me sitting at our usual table in the back near the kitchen. I ordered a Meat Lovers Skillet, something different than my usual. It was huge, but I made it all the way through it and even ate my raisin toast! I was pretty full by the time I was done. Everyone else beat me done by a good five minutes! Laura, who has waited on us a few times before, did a great job and remembered what everyone had ordered, so we didn’t have to prompt her! Our friend, Arletta had the day off because she hadn’t had any in quite some time and a young waitress (can’t remember her name) was filling in. She had been there before, but had a baby and needed some time off. I don’t know why?!

It’s definitely Barneveld time. The girls basketball team won two games over the weekend, beating #1 Argyle/Pecatonica for the second time in three tries this season and then taking down another #1 Independence-Gilmanton at Sectionals and now will be heading to the State Championships at the Resch Center in Green Bay next weekend. They play on Friday and then hopefully on Saturday! Here’s wishing them the best of luck!

Also the Barneveld boys basketball team won Regionals last weekend and is now our only coverage-area team still vying for a state tournament berth. They head to Sectional competition. Good Luck to them!

Then there’s the Dodgeville Co-Op Gymnastics Team. What a run! They topped all the teams in Division 2 at the State Gymnastics Championships last Friday in Wisconsin Rapids. And Maddy Klein and Faith Hoffman did very well in the Individual Championships on Saturday. It was the first State Title for the program. It’s great for all the schools involved - Dodgeville, Mineral Point, Iowa-Grant and Highland!

The word is out as to what is going to locate at the former Dodgeville Truck Stop. Dodgeville is now getting a Hilton Hotel, a Pizza Ranch and a FunZone Arcade. It will be great to get that area back on the tax roll!

For my special day, I’m going with today, Thursday, March 12 - National Working Moms Day. National Working Moms Day is celebrated annually on March 12 to honor the dedication, resilience, and dual roles of mothers balancing careers and family life. Founded in 2020 by the Working Moms of Milwaukee, it recognizes all working mothers—including those in the workforce and at home—as breadwinners, and educators. It's a day to celebrate all the mothers that work for their children — the teachers, the doctors, the accountants, the cashiers, and yes, even the housewives and homemakers. All of them work; all of them are role models.
