Opinion on the referendum
Dear Editor,
For the past 20 years I have driven a school bus for the Dodgeville School District. I have driven routes, sports trips, field trips etc. The School system provides a wide variety of activities which are important in the development of our young people.
For long term Dodgeville residents you know what your school experience has meant to you and the community you call home. School is part of the foundation of who we become. Education set the direction of the 58 years I lived outside of Dodgeville. I wish to see each of the many students I have transported have the same opportunity that school provided to me. I am proud to be a local tax payer and have been doing that for the past 28 years. Yes an outsider but one who cares that Dodgeville students are ready to become good citizens, community leaders, tax payers, and care providers in the future.
If there is a complaint about special referendums just to keep the doors open we need to focus our frustration on Howard Marklein, Todd Novak, and the State Legislature. They control the state aid that is a very large portion of the school budget. They are sitting on a huge State surplus and could prioritize its expenditure to school aid.
Until that happens I am going to be a proud Dodger and VOTE FOR the Kids of Dodgeville on the upcoming referendum.
