Bicentennial Committee Looks to Fill a Year With Celebration in Mineral Point
A year-long bicentennial celebration can be a boon for Mineral Point, organizers said at a planning meeting last week.
Other cities, including Shullsburg, are also celebrating bicentennials next year.
“From what we can tell so far, most communities are having one event,” said Mike Christensen, of the bicentennial committee. “We want to scatter events throughout the year. We want every organization to have a moment to shine.”
One gathering a month could be built around existing events, but “that doesn’t mean organizations can’t do things on other weekends,” Christensen said, or host something in addition. “We want you to go back to your organization and say ‘This is what they’re thinking. How can we get involved?’” ...
