Dodgers give Lancaster a battle

The Dodgeville girls basketball team seems to be at a point in the season where it is fun to watch the young team win or try.

Thursday was a “try” game when the girls took on co-SWC leader Lancaster. After a good battle the end result went to the visiting Flying Arrows  59-46. It was a close game until the Arrows pulled away at the end.

Part of the reason for Lancaster’s success was freshman Lexi Olmstead. The guard took what the Dodgers gave her and struck for a game high 30 points. Addison Morgan also reached double digits with 14.

The Dodgers had a pair of 13 point  outbursts from Emma Dougherty and Abiline Bartz. Bartz hit a trio of three pointers.

Dodgeville coach Alan Seabrooke saw a bunch of positives in the game from his young Dodger squad

“The girls did a great job competing with a really good team,” Seabrooke said.. “We are starting to put the little things together.  I am excited about what the girls are doing.  We are showing we can compete with good teams. We just need to fix a couple more things and we will start winning these games.”  

“We had a stretch in both halves of about two and half minutes where Lancaster beat us 8-0,” Seabrooke pointed out. “That means the rest of the game we outscored them. The first half it was turnovers to start the game against their press, and the second half we gave them two wide open threes and a layup after a turnover, while also missing a couple of our own layups,”

The Dodgers are off until Friday when they host River Valley. Both teams have two wins in SWC action.
