Cardinals cruise past Timberwolves
Highland’s girls basketball team had their offense show up in a big way when they hosted River Ridge Thursday in a Six Rivers match-up.
The good thing is their defense was right along with it.
The Cardinals put up 20 points before the Timberwolves got on the board. It was at 8:52 of the first half when the Wolves scored on a steal. They only managed two more points the first 18 minutes as the Cardinals took a 32-4 halftime lead.
Sophia Tarrell scored 10 of her game high 16 points the first half and Celia Oleson contributed seven of her 16.
Adilyn Esser also finished in double figures for Highland with 11.
“Our defense was a big key,” Highland coach Josh Tarrell said. “River Ridge is scrappy and plays good defense but we stepped up. Sophia and Celia got some big baskets to get us going.”
“We were able to give a lot of playing time and we got to see some different combinations. It will help us going forward.”
Highland remained in first place in the Six Rivers West with the win.
