Dodgeville’s Nathan Johnson finished 5th at 144 and Rhett Spurley at 138 took 12th as the two Dodger wrestlers to compete in day 2 (Tuesday) at the Bi-State Classic held in La Crosse.

Pointer coach Curtixs Fiedler said, “Always want to do better, but overall I thought we wrestled well. We really get to see some of the best at this tournament and that is the experience we got here.”

River Valley first-year coach Shane Liegel talked about the experience:

“Our high school wrestlers kicked off the week with a unique opportunity, getting a workout in a Division III wrestling room. Thank you to UW–La Crosse for their hospitality.

“Our high school boys and girls teams then competed at the Bi-State Classic on Monday and Tuesday, featuring 74 girls teams and 69 boys teams. The girls led the way with strong performance with Makenzie Schulte placing 7th at 126 lbs, and Raelynn Ragsdale finishing 6th at 145 lbs.

“This week provides a great opportunity to practice, get back to work, and focus on bettering ourselves, both mentally and physically.”

Next up for the Blackhawks will be the SWC Conference Duals at Richland Center on Friday night.

The JV has a State Qualifier & Sauk Tournament on Saturday.
