David Lee Hanson, age 91, of Dodgeville passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at his home.
David was born on July 27,1934 in Blanchardville to Henry and Merle (Olson) Hanson. He lived there with his family until he was 7 years old. His parents then bought a farm by Yellowstone Lake. David farmed there with his dad. They also sold, installed and serviced barn cleaners, silo unloaders, bunk feeders, barn equipment and silos.
David got married in 1962 to Geraldine “Geri” Bruce. David and Geri bought a farm near Dodgeville in 1970, after his dad sold the farm by Yellowstone Lake. They spent the next 20 years raising their three boys and dairy farming. David and Geri moved off the farm and built a new house in 1989. They were members of Grace Lutheran Church in Dodgeville. David worked as a crossing guard for Dodgeville Schools.
David liked restoring antique tractors, deer hunting, football and polka dancing. He and Geri enjoyed traveling in their fifth wheel camper to Branson, MO and polka fests. They visited almost all the U.S. states and Canada. They went to England when their son Gary got married. David said, “it was a nice trip.”
David was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine; his parents, Henry and Merle; three brothers Ralph, Arlin and Donald; two sisters Ruth and Beverly; and two half sisters Mahala Davis and Charlene Balfanz.
He is survived by his sons, Gary (Shawn) Hanson, Brian (Sarah) Hanson and Kevin Hanson; his grandchildren, Catherine Hanson, Victoria Hanson, Christopher Hanson, Kate (Rick) Paynter, Kimberly Hanson, Kayla Hanson, Klydee Hanson, Kameron Hanson and Karyss Hanson; four great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025 at GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH in Dodgeville. Burial will be held in East Side Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville and from 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. on Monday at the church.
