We deserve the truth
Dear Editor,
Have you watched the interview on Channel 15 regarding the wind turbine project in the Mineral Point area? Shaina Nijhawan interviewed several SW WI residents regarding the Upland Winds wind turbine project. At the end was Pattern's response “Uplands Wind has actively engaged in a comprehensive community outreach process, fostering open dialogue with community members and local officials to share information and gather input. The project will adhere to all applicable regulatory requirements through a process that is open to public participation and will be built on private land with landowners who have chosen to participate. Uplands Wind represents a significant investment in Wisconsin’s energy infrastructure, helping meet growing electricity demand while creating jobs, creating new revenue for local governments, and investing directly in local communities.”
Where was Pattern Energy 6 years ago when they started signing up landowners for this project? There were not any public Q&A meetings. There was no active engagement or open dialogue with community members. It wasn't until the past month that Pattern representatives started attending town meetings and answering some questions. Note, they only answer the questions they want to. Some questions go unanswered, some are skirted.
The residents of Iowa and Lafayette Counties deserve the truth. Yes, there are the landowners that "chose" to participate but how many have been coerced into a deal that will outlive them? What kind of mess are they leaving for our children? Pattern states "they will adhere to all applicable regulatory requirements." Several towns have passed health and safety ordinances to protect their constituents; is Pattern going to adhere to those ordinances? Residents deserve answers before Pattern applies to the PSC.
