Mikaela Shiffrin won the Olympic Gold Medal in the Women's Slalom (Alpine Skiing). She won by 1.50 seconds. if you add up the winnling margins from the 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022 - you get 1.51 seconds (total). That’s pretty impressive of a win for the U.S!

It didn’t break my heart at all that we didn’t get the predicted 4-8” of snow Thursday night into Friday morning! We only received a dusting! We did get a couple of rain showers, however, during the night before the dusting came! There were quite a few schools cancelled to the north and west of us due to the snow though!

Congratulations to the Dodgeville Co-Op Gymnastics team for winning the SWC Conference Tournament Thursday. In doing so the team set a school record for points, breaking 140 for the first time ever! Now their sights are set on a Division 2 Sectional title with the event being held in Dodgeville - then the state tournament!

This Thursday-Saturday is the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament held at the Kohl Center in Madison. There is a good group of wrestlers from our coverage area there - good luck to all of them!

People we know are at quite a few places we go for Saturday morning breakfast. This week we headed to the southeast to Darlington. We have been to Glennie’s several times before and local Chuck Keister, who’s also a baseball umpire I see quite often during the season, and Tom McGuire, Mineral Point, are always there when we are! There are also a couple of other people that Tom and Bob knew.

It was Bob, Terry, Tom, me, and Royce heading out at our usual 7:30 time from the Chronicle office Saturday. Potsie headed north to a cabin (maybe to check out the amount of snow they had) and Dave was basking in the sun and playing golf in Arizona! A tiny young lady, Brianna (Vasquez) was our waitress. She is a cross country and distance track runner at Darlington. She knows the Dodge-Point runners very well! Omelettes were the choice of Bob, Tom and myself. Terry had their French toast while Royce (like usual) had biscuits and gravy. Everything was very good and both Tom and Bob  couldn’t quite finish everything. Maybe Tom shouldn’t have had the hash browns with cheese and onions (like I did)! Glennie’s is always a good place to eat!

Congratulations and Good Luck to Mineral Point senior Dealya Collins and sophomore Tatum James as both advanced to the WIAA Girls State Wrestling Championships in Madison from Saturday’s Sectionals held in Mineral Point. Also advancing from our immediate area is Iowa-Grant/Highland freshman Rohwen Aultman.

Mineral Point, Iowa-Grant/Highland, Dodgeville and Pecatonica/Argyle are all expected to bring back some hardware from the boys portion of the state wrestling championships. They are going on at the Kohl Center the same time as the girls wrestle. Good luck to all of them!

Tuesday night was the start of playoffs for the girls basketball teams. Winners advance to the second round that takes place Friday night. Good luck to all of them!

My special day takes me to one of my favorite dishes - CHILI! It’s National Chili Day! Brother Pat has made very good chili - I’m not a cook! Here’s a little history: “National Chili Day is celebrated annually on the fourth Thursday in February (February 26, 2026, and February 25, 2027) to honor the hearty,, comforting, and versatile dish often known as chili con carne. Founded by Rich Kelly of the Hard Times Cafe in Virginia, this day encourages enjoying various styles—with or without beans—through cook-offs, potlucks, and sharing recipes.”
