Along The Ad Routes

Boy the Olympics are fun to watch if you’re a USA fan! Even though Lyndsey Vonn took a terrible skiing fall and her career is probably over there have been a lot of ups. The USA Women’s hockey team shut Canada out 5-0, the first-ever shutout Canada has ever suffered in Olympic history! The figure skating has been fantastic as has a lot of the skiing, snowboarding. A speed skater from Kewaskum, Wisconsin set an Olympic record too! I don’t know how any of them can do that they are doting!

It’s about time we have gotten a break in the weather. Temperatures in the 50s sure do feel better than the single digit stuff we’ve been having. Long range shows most of the time we will be in the mid to high 30s! And MLB spring training has begun in the warmer temperatures to the south and west!

The Dodgeville Lions Club held its FREE Community Breakfast for the first time at the Red Room Bar & Restaurant in downtown Dodgeville. Members were a little leary as to if the change of location was going to affect people attending. Well, it didn’t. We had almost a record number of people attending, quite a bit over the last few years! It’s always great to see people come out and supporting the Dodgeville Food Pantry, where all the proceeds went this year. It’s also great to see people that maybe you only get to see once or twice a year!

Saturday morning breakfast took us kind of a long ways from here, but to a place we really enjoy going to. We made the trip to the northwest to Boscobel and Old 61 Diner. Lacie, the owner, is always happy to see us. She always recognizes us when we walk in the door, even if it’s only two or three times a year! We enjoy the food and she makes the best cinnamon rolls too! Cirece was our waitress - hope I spelled her name correctly! Four of us had omelettes with Royce having #2 breakfast - eggs, toast, meat! We were a little shorthanded going there with Dave in Arizona playing golf and Potsie having a carpenter working with him in his “Man Garage”. So it was Bob, Terry, Tom, Royce and me heading to eat.

Saturday I made a call to Boscobel and a classmate, Sherrie (Jeske) Zink. She had mentioned to me to let her know when we were coming to Boscobel for breakfast. Well, she didn’t think that 8:00 would fit her schedule, but she may stop by and say hi. She did just that before 9:00. She tried to sneak up behind me, but the guys gave her away. I got up and gave her a hug! She had a daughter and granddaughter with her. She said they all needed a good breakfast, so they sat down. We chatted a little and then I finished my coffee and they sat down to order. It was great to see her and some of her family!

Oh, it was Valentine’s Day so all the guys got a huge cinnamon roll from Lacie. I figured they were going to give it to their “sweetheart”. Me, I just got one for myself and it was gone by noon and boy was it good! And my Valentine’s present was a hug from Lacie when we arrived and when we left!

Good luck to all the area wrestlers (boy) who qualified for the WIAA State Individual tournament last Saturday! The girls are wrestling at Sectionals this Friday night for them to earn a trip to state - Good Luck to them too!

With the temperature at 55 degrees on Saturday I figured I’d take a trip to the concession stand at Centennial Park in Dodgeville to check things out. We will be in there for baseball games around April 1st! It was fine. I saw something that I usually don’t see in February. There were young kids playing on the swings and slides!

I’m going back to Wednesday this week for my special day - or should I say “wierd” day. It’s Milk a Cow While Flying an Airplane Day! On February 18, 1930, the first cow to ever take flight ascended into the sky in a Ford Tri-Motor. As part of the celebration of the International Air Exposition in St. Louis, Elm Farm Ollie was flown from Bismarck, Missouri, to St. Louis, a distance of 72 miles. Elm Farm Ollie was the first cow to take flight and the first cow to be milked on a plane.
I wonder if they used Robotic milkers!
