Panther girls drain 13 threes in win over Benton

The three point shot more than worked for the Iowa-Grant girls basketball team Tuesday when they destroyed Benton 68-28 in a non-conference match up.

Besides the 13 three pointers the Panthers put in the book there was also that matter of defense where they limited the Zephyrs to seven second half points.

Reese DiVall was unconscious from three point range as she drilled five and finished the night with 17 points.

But that is not all.

Leah Nelson found the range from deep three times and led the scoring  with 25.

Rena Pettit also reached double digit scoring with 12 and Trinity Loeffelholz tallied a trio of threes, all in the first half.

It was  night that was just what the doctor ordered.

“What a fun win,” exclaimed Panther coach Jessica Schultz.  “We all really needed that at this point in the season.”

Schultz was happy to see the offense come together.

“We have been talking all season about the importance of making shots and tonight that finally happened for us,” she said.  “Reese DiVall (sneaky Reese as we call her) came out of no where tonight shooting with confidence and ease. “

And that was not all....

“Another great performance from Leah and Rena Pettit stepping up big time offensively,” Schultz pointed ut.

Brynne Pettit was also available for the game.

“It’s really nice having Brynne back,” Schultz noted.  “She is the glue to this team and adds such an important layer to our flow.”  

“I’m proud of these ladies every night but this one feels especially good.”

The Panthers ended a two game losing streak that saw them fall 42-36 to Riverdale and 89-36 to SWAL leading Cuba City.
