MINERAL POINT - Richard "Dick" Sporle age 76 born in Dodgeville Wisconsin on February 15,1949 passed away at Edenbrook of Platteville on Sunday, February 1, 2026, after a long health battle of COPD and Dementia.
Richard was born February 15, 1949, to Robert and Lois (Vivian) Sporle of Mineral Point Wisconsin. Richard grew up in Mineral Point and graduated from Mineral Point High School in 1967. On July 27,1968 he was united in marriage to Susan Cutler at the Hope Lutheran Church in Mineral Point. He attended college at MATC of Madison for mechanics. Where later he worked for GMAC in Janesville while Susan and him lived in Madison for a short time before returning to their hometown of Mineral Point. Richard worked for several construction companies until he had his own siding and window business. He hung up his hammer and took a job at Lands' End in Dodgeville where he worked until his retirement.
Richard had a lifelong passion for construction and woodworking. He always had a project in progress, sometimes several—and a few that never quite made it to the finish line. He loved playing cribbage, especially with his dad, and proudly carried the winning two‑dollar bill from their last game in his wallet ever since his father's passing. He enjoyed playing cards with friends at local establishments, and he found joy in ice fishing, bass fishing, and hunting.
Richard is survived by his wife, Susan; his children Greg Sporle (Sherry Ray) of Darlington and Shelby (Kurt) Thomas of Mineral Point; his grandchildren Carson Thomas, Chloe Thomas (Will Engelmann), Alex Sporle, Hope Sporle, Carissa Varholik, and Ashley Varholik; his sister Sharon Whitford of Mineral Point; his brothers Mike Sporle of Rockford and Mark Sporle of Mineral Point; his sister‑in‑law Kathleen (Richard) Cadriel of Henderson, NV; his nephew Brad (Barb) Cenite of Phoenix, AZ; nieces Debi Finkelmeyer of Mineral Point and Cyndi (Kris) Eggers of Mount Horeb; and a special family friend, Kelly Johnson Bontekoe, along with her children Kimmi, Kyler, Sarah, and Bob, who will always hold a special place in their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lois Sporle; his in‑laws Bud and Lorraine Cutler; brothers‑in‑law Dick Cutler and Rod Whitford; nephew Mark Finkelmeyer; and several cousins.
Richard is now in a better place—where the beer is cold and his memories are crystal clear.
A memorial service and burial will be held at a later date.
The Family would like to make a special thank you to Samantha Brunett and Mariah Jacobs for the wonderful home health care.
