Hillmen rally to tip Dodgers
Dodgeville’s baseball team saw a 3-run lead in the seventh disappear with some late Platteville clutch hitting.
The game was tied at six in the bottom of the seventh when Sasse’s deep fly to left sent Carson Opgenorth home with the game winner.
The Dodgers lost despite out-hitting Platteville nine to seven. Bryce Crubaugh-Lockard led the Dodgers with four hits and Caden Schneider smoked two doubles.
The Dodgers got on the board in the top of the first inning after Jayce Halverson singled down the left field line, and Jack Graber stroked a sacrifice fly with each scoring one run.
Platteville took the lead, 7-6, in the bottom of the seventh thanks to singles by Brody Digman, Opgenorth, and Sasse.
Digman earned the win for Platteville. The reliever surrendered one hit and one run (zero earned) over one inning, striking out none and walking none. Rickard took the loss for the Dodgers. The right-handed pitcher went two-thirds of an inning, giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits, striking out one and walking one.
Nathan Johnson worked the first six innings for Dodgeville. He allowed three hits and three runs (two earned) over six innings, striking out six and walking two.
Dodgeville collected nine hits in the game. Crubaugh-Lockard went 4-for-4 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Schneider and Halverson each collected two hits for the Dodgers.
Crubaugh-Lockard stole three bases.
Rickard also got a hit for the Dodgers.
