Sherrill Josephine Lane Baebler, age 79, formerly of Dodgeville WI and current resident of San Marcos, TX, passed away unexpectedly on March 23rd, 2026. Sherry was the life partner of Bill for 58 years; mother of Andrea, Carolyn, and Dan; mother-in-law to Blake and Betsy; grandmother to Abigail and Elise; sister to Deborah, Letitia and Bill; sister-in-law of Mary and Fred; aunt of Peter, Karl, Alex, Sarah, Muna and Layla.
Born in San Marcos, TX to James Stuart Lane and Billye Jo Sherrill Lane, Sherry's family eventually settled in the outskirts of Racine, WI. Sherry met her husband Bill at a high school dance and they dated until after college when they moved to Dodgeville, WI. In Dodgeville, while raising three children, Sherry went back to school at the University of Wisconsin Platteville and obtained a degree with high honors in International Studies. Later, she received a paralegal degree, all while being active in the community, church, and her husband's business.
Sherry returned to San Marcos in the early 2000's to build a house on her mother's family farm where she lived happily with her dogs, cats, chickens, cows, and wild birds. She truly loved all creatures, large and small, and was a faithful supporter of humanitarian, animal welfare and environmental organizations and causes. Sherry volunteered for PALS of Central Texas and was a valued member of P.E.O. International chapters in Wisconsin and Texas. She was very proud to be a part of the Heritage Association of San Marcos, variously serving on the board and different committees as needed.
Sherry was incredibly strong, smart, and loyal. She was the conscience and strength of her family, no matter how far they were separated.
Though she left us too soon, Sherry cemented her legacy through the lives she delicately touched. She focused on the positive things in her life, her warm smile ever ready to help spread sunshine in the world around her. Sherry trod gently on the earth and strove to leave behind only good. She was especially kind and generous to those without voices, taking in or finding homes for countless lost, injured, abused or unwanted animals.
Sherry did not leave family, friends, animals, and loved ones behind; she joined her mother and father in a better place and is patiently waiting for us all to join her at the dinner table for one of her beloved family holiday gatherings once again.
Wife, Mother, Sister, Friend: we all love you.
