Downtown Dodgeville has a new ice cream shoppe. It’s called “Wyatt’s Tempting Treats” and is located at the former “Jeff’s Performance Archery” building at the corner of Iowa and Division Streets. The building was also once “The Sweat Shop” and “The Gentry Shop”, among other things. It is run by the same family that runs “Vibe Body Art” that is located the buildings just to the north. The business has some candies, hot chocolate, drip coffee and is adding more items. Ice cream business is good in the hot weather we have been experiencing and they sold out several days this past week!

Above, two of the Dodgeville Chronicle employees stopped in for ice cream at Wyatt’s Sweet Treats the other day. Shown are Grant Roh and Heather Olson with their treats and Molly Abing serving them.

For Saturday morning breakfast we decided to head south, a direction we hadn’t been in awhile. We went to “Owl Cafe” in Platteville. It’s on 2nd Street - the street known for bars in Platteville! We had been there about a year ago. It’s run by Suzie Stoney and her son Tom. Suzie said she and her family came to Platteville in 1959 and, along with her folks running it, she and her family have worked it ever since. She remembered going to the grocery store around the corner that was run by my stepmother Helen (Davis) Reilly. Suzie is a little older than me and she does the waitressing while Tom does the cooking! She also remembered I owned a newspaper in Dodgeville and that someone showed her she was mentioned in my column that time. I told her that she would be mentioned again and I promised I wouldn’t say anything bad! The service was good and so was the food - omelettes, along with biscuits & gravy was what was ordered!

Right after we ordered Don and Sharon Christianson, of Dodgeville, came into the cafe. They were meeting some of their Family, who live in Platteville. The world really does get smaller especially the older you get, doesn’t it?

This issue of our papers (September 25) will be the final one this month. That means there are only three more months left in 2025! I don’t want to start figuring how many days that means before Christmas!

It was great to see so many people out of my past Sunday at the DASFI (Dodgeville Area Scholarship Foundation) Golf Outing that was held at Dodge Point Country Club. It was also the 60th reunion weekend for the class of 1965 - one year after I graduated! That class is one of the main supporters of the DASFI too!

I was supposed to see son Michael on Wednesday. I hadn’t seen him in awhile. He’s lost some weight and also has a girlfriend! He had to cancel due to his work!

The baseball season at Centennial Park in Dodgeville will end after this coming Sunday’s four “Fall Ball” games. Weather for this final Sunday is expected to be right around 80 degrees - not too bad for the end of September! Stop up for a game or two, staring at 10:00 a.m. with the last game staring around 4:00 p.m. Help us clear out stuff in the stand and enjoy some baseball!

Today, Thursday, September 25, is “National Bakery Day”. It’s also “Ask Stupid Question Day”. I probably ask more stupid questions than I go to the bakery! It would be a great time to stop at our “Not So” Quality Bakery and tell them how much we enjoy them! Maybe buy a donut too! I will report back on how many stupid questions that I asked that Thursday too!
