Trump's War on Wind
Dear Editor,
The Trump Administration has...shall we say 'strong' opinions regarding reliable and proven renewable energy sources, and the latest target in our president's crosshairs is the wind industry. Donald Trump claims that 'smart countries don't use it (wind energy)' and has obliquely referenced unproven allegations that wind turbines have led to greater whale deaths. Like many of his claims, those around wind power are demonstrably false, but sadly this has not stopped his administration from moving to kill such projects on baseless grounds.
The Revolution Wind project off the coast of Rhode Island and Connecticut, 80% complete already and fully permitted and approved by all relevant state and federal stakeholders to this point, has been issued a stop work order by the Trump Administration. Never mind the excellent jobs created by the project; never mind the estimated 300,000 homes that would have been powered by clean and reliable energy - just abandon it all. Orsted, the developed, is now suing on the grounds that the stop work order is unlawful.
Electricity prices, according to recent CNBC reporting, are already rising at rates twice that of inflation, so why are we cancelling near-complete renewable energy projects? Despite being a source of hot air and wind himself, Trump and his baseless vendettas will not power our homes.
Sincerely,
Nathan Dombeck, Janesville, WI
