Cardinals use long runs to sweep Braves
Highland volleyball coach Maria Wineski knows taking on Belmont is never an easy task for the Cardinals.
But her squad shook off all the ghosts of the past and swept the Braves in Six Rivers West action Thursday, Scores were 25-19, 25-11 and 25-12.
All three matches had long serving runs that put some distance between the two squads.
The first set needed it as Wineski felt the Cardinals struggled at times. It was Brinleigh Bollant who hit her serves and got the first seven to hit to get the Cardinals going.
The second set with was Celia Oleson who went on a run, serving from point six to point 15.
Bollant had a five point run in the third set and Oleson added eight to help the Cardinals fashion the sweep.
“Belmont always give us their best,” Wineskip ointed out.
“Our setters did a good job moving the ball and our passing from the back row was solid,” the coach said.
Defensively Wineski pointed at seven blocks that led that phase of the game.
