Along The Ad Routes
by Mike Reilly
We received a nice note from Judie and Lowell Gibbon, of Dodgeville, along with a Chronicle renewal. It said, “Thank you for such a great newspaper. We enjoy it.”

Drivers sure like to screw up traffic at stoplights. The other day I was stopped at the light by Kwik Trip North and McDonald’s and the driver in front of me made a U-turn to head back downtown. Then, a little later, a driver at the Culver’s Post Office stoplight ran a red light and almost got hit by a semi coming from the east!

The Dodgeville Area Scholarship Foundation golf outing and fundraiser is set for Sunday, September 21 at Dodge Point Country Club. That’s a great day to stop out and renew some old acquaintances even if you don’t play golf!

Saturday morning breakfast took us a little to the north to Spring Green. We have several options there, but we decided earlier in the week to go to 400 Springs since their last day there (for the season) will be Sunday September 28. They are just open for breakfast on Saturday and Sunday now. It was Bob, Terry, Potsie and Royce meeting me at the Chronicle office at 7:30 since they open at 8:00. We got there at opening time and there already was one group waiting in the lobby. Dave Stone came in at the same time that we arrived. We were seated by a young man who brought us our drinks. Then about seven more tables arrived. Dawn was there all alone taking food orders and boy was she hustling! Her help was supposed to be there but hadn’t arrived yet. We had our usually delicious meals that included a lot of French toast (1/2 orders) with meat (except Dave). Potsie and Royce both had eggs, bacon, etc. Everyone cleaned their plates except Bob, and this time, Terry too. The two pieces of French Toast were huge! Dawn apologized that she didn’t have time to talk with us, but we totally understood. We hope they will be back there next summer!

Something that usually happens when we’re at Saturday morning breakfast is a group text to us from Dewey, in Indiana. Potsie sent him photos of what we were eating. He was a. little jealous, but was sitting outside of his house in Knox, Indiana with his wife, enjoying breakfast! He got over his little health episode and they plan to visit our direction in the near future!

Vern (Ott) “The Barber” has officially sold his shop on the main street. Josi Lee is the new owner. She took over on Monday and will be cutting hair as well as styling in that location! Many of you may know Jerry “Cowboy” Olson, her grandfather!

It was a cool Sunday for “Fall Ball” at Centennial Park! I made coffee and hot chocolate, but to no avail, I had no takers the entire time from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.! There were four very good ball games and we had a well decent crowd watching. Money-wise, we did very well for “Fall Ball!” We are at it again for the next three Sundays at Centennial Park. Stop by and enjoy a game or two and have a bite to eat!

Today, Thursday, September 22, is one of the most recognized days of the year, especially in the U.S. It’s the day we all remember 9/11 happening in New York City! Here’s what Patriot Day stands for: to honor and remember the victims and heroes of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, which resulted in nearly 3,000 deaths at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in a field in Pennsylvania. It serves as a National Day of Service and Remembrance to recognize the acts of courage by first responders and ordinary citizens, foster unity and resilience, and reflect on the day's enduring impact on the nation.
