Meaning of double yellow line

Dear Editor,

Up the hill.

Rounding the curve.

Crossing the double yellow line*.

Passing a slower moving vehicle.

I see it all too often.

ALL have a right to be on the road – ATV (added recently), car,

farm equipment/vehicle, semi, and truck.

This “accident-waiting-to-happen” often involves farm equipment/vehicle, especially this time of year.

Please be patient.

Be alert to slowing down.

Watch for their turn signal.

Then safely proceed on your way.

(I even cringe when preparing to make a left turn on that two-way road seeing, in my rear view mirror, a vehicle bearing down on me.)

*Pavement marking – solid double yellow line in the center of a two-way road where traffic is moving in the opposite direction.

The solid double yellow line means NO PASSING ALLOWED.
