Smart, Clarice W.

Clarice W. Smart, age 84 of Mineral Point, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison on Thursday, October 16, 2025. She was born on September 25, 1941, in Dodgeville to Willard and Anna Mae (Reger) Mann. She attended Seven Oak Country School until 8th grade when she transferred to Mineral Point High School. She graduated in 1960. After high school she attended Madison Beauty School.

Clarice enjoyed spending her time as a homemaker, 4-H leader, a leather craft instructor, crafting—specifically floral arrangements for her daughters' weddings and her own jewelry out of turquoise, a caregiver, and a Jill-of-All-Trades. She loved being barefoot outside, planting flowers and listening for wildlife (squirrels in particular) and feeding the animals breadcrumbs. Listening to music, dancing, and getting an ice-cold Budweiser at Red Room, and decorating the house and yard for all holidays were some of her favorite pastimes. She paid homage to her favorite cartoon character, Tweety-Bird, with her one and only tattoo so he was always with her. She was a true free-spirit.

Clarice was an incredibly kind person who would do anything for anyone at any time. She will be missed by many.

Clarice was preceded in death by her parents; sons: William Billings, Jim Billings, Charles E. Smart, Jr.; brother, Gary Mann; brother-in-law, Paul Hoffman; and several aunts and uncles.

Clarice is survived by her children: Carla (Luther) Teller, Sherry (Dirrick) Wahl, Jenny (fiancé Dale) Wolfgram; grandchildren: Aundrea (Ro) Billings, Stacey (Krishna) Veeramah, Lori Scott, Jenah Wahl, Carley (Dalton) Soderstrom, Destinee Wahl, Jay (Aubrey), Jeriann, and Jessica Wolfgram, Garrett (McKenzie) and Dylan (Kaylynn) Smart; great-grandchildren Paisley, Ryker, Charlie, and Leo Smart, and Thomas Veeramah; daughter-in-law Margie Billings; sister Donna Hoffman; and many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

A visitation will be held on SUNDAY, October 19, 2025, at Lulloff-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon. Online condolences may be made at www.houckfuneralhomes.com

The family would like to extend their gratitude and thanks to the staff of St. Mary's Hospital—especially the hospice staff, Upland Hills Health and Mineral Point Health Services for their compassionate care of Clarice and her family.
