Flanagan, Harry J.



Harry J. Flanagan, 76, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025 surrounded by family at home in Mineral Point.

He was born in Dodgeville on August 27, 1949 to parents Cecil and Helen (Lawinger) Flanagan. He graduated from Mineral Point High School in 1967. He worked at Dicks supermarket for several years before owning his own grocery store, Countryside Market. He partnered with Jerry Marr before establishing his cattle broker business, Flanagan Livestock, in 1992. Harry married Jean (Cruice) Flanagan on May 13th, 1972 at St Joseph's Catholic Church in Dodgeville. Harry will be remembered by his friends, family, and community for his kindness, compassion, selflessness, generosity, and dedication to his people and his causes.

Harry is survived by his wife, Jean; children, Jennifer (Patrick) Maguire and Jodi (Wade) Peat; 5 grandchildren, Molly, Megan, and Zachary Maguire, Angelina and Wyatt Peat; and great-grandchild Callahan Thompson. He is further survived by his siblings Phil Flanagan, Elaine (Mark) Busch, Fr. David Flanagan, Mark (Karla) Flanagan, and brother-in-law Peter Walsh, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Helen, his sister Kaye Walsh, and nephew Brian Busch.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday October 14, 2025 at 11:00 am at Ss. Mary & Paul Catholic Church. Celebrants are Fr. David Flanagan, Fr. Alex Carmel and Deacon Larry Lawinger.  Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Monday October 13, 2025 from 3:00-7:00 and also on Tuesday from 9:30-10:50am at St Mary's Catholic Church in Mineral Point.
