Our teachers care
Dear Editor,
I am writing in defense of the Dodgeville School District. Full disclosure, my husband taught 30 years at DHS, two daughters currently teach at DES, and one son in law teaches in all three schools in the district. Our three children all attended elementary through high school in Dodgeville before completing university degrees. Now, three of our grandchildren attend Dodgeville Elementary School.
What I have witnessed in the Dodgeville schools are teachers who care about the welfare of their students while doing everything they can to help them learn. Kindness to others is a theme which radiates throughout all three learning environments.
I definitely do not believe our children are being “indoctrinated in Marxist ideology and philosophy” as a recent writer proclaimed. I have seen no evidence of that whatsoever.
Basic human values such as respect, kindness, fairness, and empathy for others are encouraged by all of the educators and staff.
Since public schools have children from a variety of faith practices, I believe it is important to welcome, value, and respect them all.
For anyone to blame a senseless act of violence on the Dodgeville schools is entirely inaccurate and inappropriate. To assign blame on anyone or anything is also grossly unfair.
The pain to all who are involved in this tragedy is unimaginable and any speculation into possible causes is not helpful.
Respectfully:
Becky Tank, Dodgeville,WI
