Make our healthcare affordable

Dear Editor,

Starting this month, insurance premiums are going to double for millions of people across the country at a time when we are already paying by far the highest prices in the world for health care. Throwing 15 million people off of Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act will have dire consequences. 50,000 low income working class Americans will die every single year according to studies by Yale and the University of Pennsylvania.

This is what is in the so called “Clean Bill” that the Republicans want the Democrats to rubber stamp. Right now our health care system is broken. We're the only major country on earth not to make health care available to all people. Instead we need to make health care accessible and affordable while we work to make it a human right for all.

Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans have spent the past nine months selling out working families in order to give tax breaks to their billionaire friends. Now they’ve taken us into a government shutdown because they refuse to negotiate with Democrats and lower health care costs for our families.

We must protect our health care from Trump’s attacks and demand Congress reaches a bipartisan agreement that lowers costs for working Americans, families, and everyone who is struggling to make ends meet.

Sincerely,

Marie L. Baker
