Dosch led Hornets hand Dodgers SWC loss

Brady Dosch not only eclipsed the 1000 yard season rushing mark Friday in Richland Center’s 50-25 SWC win over Dodgeville he also had a night of sheer dominance.

Dosch ran for 287 yards on 19 carries and scored five touchdowns for the Hornets.  His scoring runs were six, 50, 19, 19 and 56.

Dosch was helped in his outburst with some huge holes created by the Hornets line.  His play was noted by Dodgeville coach Matt Staver.

“Brady is a good football player — tough, athletic, and runs with great vision,” noted Staver.  “We had a difficult time keeping him contained, and once he got rolling, his confidence and their offensive line really took over the game.”

It was a night where RC got established first and never let up.

“They were able to control the line of scrimmage and consistently get chunk plays in the run game,” Staver said.  “We struggled to stop the run all night, and when you allow that kind of yardage on the ground, it’s hard to get off the field. Credit to them — they executed well and took advantage of our mistakes.”

Jayden Schoepp hooked up with Brenton Baker for a 20 yard touchdown pass. Freshman fullback Bronson Perkins also scored for RC.

The Hornets did most of their damage on the ground with 364 yards.  Schoepp passed for 61 yards, hitting three of seven.

Jack Graber turned in a pair of scores for the Dodgers. He scored just before halftime on an interception to cut the Hornet lead to 21-14.  He then grabbed a pass from Blake Stodola for a score in the fourth frame. Graber also had a two point conversion. He was the rush leader with 11 carries for 48 yards.

“Jack continues to be a warrior, playing nearly every down of the game,” Staver said. “He’s one of those kids who gives you everything he has on every snap.”

After Dosch scored to open the game Braydenn Husom plunged in from the one to tie it at 7-7.  A catch by Isaiah Argall set up the score.

Dosch then put the Hornets ahead for good.

Stodola, who, was nine for 18 for 146 yards, hit Griffin Busch with a 23 yarder for Dodgeville’s fourth score.

Ethan Burke kicked a pair of extra points.

Staver knew this wasn’t the way the Dodgers wanted the game to go but he felt they didn’t give up.

“We are very proud of the kids that—even on a tough night—stayed locked in and kept battling to the final whistle,” he said..

Staver said the difference in the game was in how long the Hornets had the football.

“They played downhill and brought a lot of pressure,” Staver said. “We struggled to sustain drives early, and a couple of turnovers in the second half made it difficult to gain any rhythm. We simply didn’t execute at the level we needed to.”

“It was a tough night all around,” Staver added.  “Our energy and focus weren’t where they needed to be.  We had a difficult week of practice, and it showed up on Friday night. The good thing is we’ll learn from it and come back stronger.”

Homecoming and Platteville are on Dodgeville’s agenda this week.

“Platteville is a very athletic and high-powered team,” Staver notes. “They can score quickly and have playmakers across the board. For us, it’s about getting back to our standard — playing with energy, discipline, and focus. It’s a great opportunity on Homecoming to respond the right way and show the kind of team we truly are.”
