Lorraine Beatrice (Amble) Ihm, 83, of Barneveld, passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital, surrounded by her family on November 19, 2025, after complications from hip surgery.
Lorraine was born July 15, 1941, the daughter of the late Carl and Adeline (Peterson) Amble, and was raised in Arena, Wis. She was one of 12 kids and learned the value of hard work from a young age. She met her husband, Gerald “Jerry” Ihm and was married on July 13, 1962. Lorraine and Jerry raised their six children on what became known as their home farm, True-Blue Registered Holsteins.
Lorraine and Jerry shared a remarkable marriage of 62 years before his death in April of 2025. In the seven months since his passing, Lorraine missed him immensely and felt the loneliness, which is expected after spending over 60 years side-by-side with her life partner.
Lorraine spent many years as a housewife on the farm. She became known for feeding anyone walking through the door, whether that was family, the milk tester or a sales rep. The mid-day meal was “dinner” and that would consist of a roast, potatoes, a vegetable and likely homemade pie. Desserts didn’t last long and there were usually a few selections of homemade baked goods. She was an avid canner and shared that love with anyone who wanted to learn.
Together, Lorraine and Jerry liked to play cards, go out for fish, check on the garden, and sit in the garage watching the neighborhood. Mostly, they loved to be surrounded by their kids, grandkids, or great-grandkids. When Lorraine laughed, she added a little elbow nudge and head nod.
Lorraine’s hobbies include collecting porcelain dolls, going to garage sales and the Amish auction, visiting family, and strawberry picking. She loved to polka dance with her Amble family, go for a drive, or hit up the casino.
Lorraine was a truly tough cookie, embodying the spirit of "nine lives" as she consistently overcame significant health challenges throughout her life. Her childhood in a large family fueled a lifelong commitment to her own large family and extended relatives. She was proud to be deeply connected, spending considerable time calling family to check in with her signature, "nothing new here." As a mother, she protected and uniquely loved each of her children and grandchildren, even if it took her a moment to land on the right name.
Lorraine is survived by her children, Jeff (Kim) Ihm, Pam (Scott) Hellenbrand, Rick (Jackie) Ihm, Kevin (Michelle) Ihm, Jason Ihm (Stephanie) and Tara Czerwinski; 13 grandchildren, Tyler, Travis, Brandon, Connor, Kyla, Carter, Amanda, Tamra, Ellie, Parker, Marissa, Trinity and Camryn; and 13 great-grandchildren, Blake, Skylar, Liv, Kaiden, Kinsley, Coast, Suede, Hew, Olivia, Benjamin, Ada, Rylee and Gatlin. She is survived by her siblings, Chuck (Judy) Amble, Richard Amble (Roselyn), Kenny (RoxAnne) Amble, Gary (Phyllis) Amble, Leslie (Trisha) Amble and Sharon Marten; and in-laws, Joe (Lynn) Ihm and Delores (Tom) Murphy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Ihm; parents, Carl and Adeline (Peterson) Amble; sisters, Christine (Dick) Broadwell and Marsha Amble; brothers, Roger (Ellen) Amble, John (Judy) Amble, Lolly Amble and LaVern Marten; infant daughter, Barb; son-in-law, David Czerwinski; and in-laws, Walter and Elizabeth (Fuerstenberg) Ihm, Lawrence (Alvera) Ihm, John Ihm, Jim Ihm, Bob (Geraldine) Ihm, Margaret (Donald) Taylor and Rita (John) Hannah.
