Along The Ad Routes

We had such a good week at the concession stand at Centennial Park for the high school baseball games last week that it took me nearly 3 hours to go to the stores, buy more product and then re-stock the stand! The 70 degree weather has really helped, plus people are seeing really good baseball games!

Saturday was the first of the Cars and Coffee gathering that run the 2nd Saturday of each month from May through October. You couldn’t have asked for a better weather day. The temperature got into the 70s and there was sunshine galore! It was estimated that there were over 100 vehicles participating Saturday. I know there were a bunch of tee shirts given out to the participants!

With the Cars and Coffee taking place at 8:00 a.m., our Saturday morning breakfast had to be close to home. It was Bob, Terry, Dewey, Tom and Potsie with Terry’s son Bill Carroll all gathering at Cafe by Country Kitchen. I met Terry, Bill, Tom and Potsie at the Chronicle office around 6:45 as they had to leave their cars downtown for the show. We squeezed into my SUV with Bill driving. That way I could sit in the back seat! Our waitress, who unlocked the door around 7:00, was Amy Jo, also known by many other names!. She is a regular to wait on us and we really like to give her a hard time! Oh, and she doesn’t back down either!

It’s less than a month away, but Saturday, June 7 will be the Iowa County Dairy Breakfast. It will be held between Barneveld and Ridgeway to the south of the interstate, hosted by the Handel Families 4239 Reeson Road, Barneveld WI. We will have more on that down the road.

The next day following the Iowa County Dairy Breakfast (Sunday, June 8) will be the first of two Dodgeville Lions Club Antique Show and Flea Markets at Harris Park. There are already several vendors signed up to come. There is always some great homemade pies available and a pretty good food stand featuring hot dogs and BBQ!

Congratulations to all the graduates. It seems like a long road, but it is worth it. The next chapter in your life begins now whether it’s more schooling or joining the workforce.

Today, Thursday, May 15 is National Chocolate Chip Day. Now, I imagine only people who don’t like or are allergic to chocolate would not celebrate this day. Chocolate chip cookies are probably the most favorite in the world - and you can add another favorite to them too - peanut butter! Snickerdoodles are right up there in the USA! Here’s a little history: In 1937, Ruth Graves Wakefield of Whitman Massachusetts must have been curious about what a little bit of chocolate would add to her cookies. While working at the Toll House Inn, she added cut-up chunks of a semi-sweet Nestle chocolate bar to a cookie recipe. The cookies were a huge success and in 1939 Wakefield signed an agreement with Nestle to add her recipe to the chocolate bar’s packaging. In exchange for the recipe, Wakefield received a lifetime supply of chocolate. The Nestle brand Toll House cookies were named for the Inn.
