George Martin Laufenberg, age 83, of Dodgeville, died peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at home surrounded by loved ones. George was born to Ray and Mary Laufenberg (McGill) on November 12, 1941.
George married the love of his life, Pat Ruth Sliter, on September 30, 1961 and they were blessed with 63 wonderful years of marriage. Together they had three sons: Kenneth Martin, Kevin Allen (called to the Lord on July 4, 1968), and Allen George.
George farmed his entire life, beginning on his family’s farm in Clyde. Upon leaving Clyde, he brought his love of farming along as he and Pat established the Laufenberg Family Farm in Dodgeville in 1969. Ken officially joined the partnership in 1980. In addition to George’s devotion to his family & friends and his dedication to farming, he proudly served on the Farm Credit Board of Directors for over 30 years. He went from the youngest person on the Board to meeting the retirement age in the blink of an eye. He was a faithful parishioner and usher for over the course of several decades at St Joseph’s Catholic Church.
George will be dearly missed by all, most acutely by his wife, Pat with whom he shared of love of dancing, Euchre and laughter. His son Ken (Kristin) of Dodgeville, son Al (Beth) of Lake Forest, IL; his beloved sister, Alice (Bob) Bomkamp of Highland, and sisters, Lois (David) Aide of Edgerton, Marlene (Larry) Stenner of Dodgeville; and his grandchildren Chelsea May of Streamwood, IL, Haley May of Monona; Jordan May of Madison, Lily Laufenberg of Oxford, MS, and Henry Laufenberg of Fort Collins, CO.
George was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Don of Spring Green, Richard (Kay) of Nebraska; sister, Mary Clarice Walstead (Clifford) of Muscoda; and his beloved son, Kevin Allen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at ST. JOSPEH”S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Dodgeville. Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Dodgeville. A luncheon will follow at the church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville and from 10:00 a.m. until time 10:50 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church or Upland Hills Hospice.
