Highland School Board discusses declining enrollment issues
The Highland School Board is one of many districts in Wisconsin who deal with enrollment numbers.
Numbers in most districts are shrinking and it is no different in Highland. For the district and the board open enrollment is a work in progress.
At last Wednesday’s meeting the board approved one request for a student to leave the district. They held a discussion about the overall status of open enrollment.
A virtual academy at Richland Center took up much of the discussion. It was reported that since the academy was started 15 students enrolled in the district.
Alternative schools in other districts that attract students via open enrollment were discussed. One member said the custom offerings are successful because if a student can’t get what they need in Highland they will go elsewhere....
