City named a place to 'micro-retire'
Mineral Point has popped up in a new career trend.
It was named as a good place for "micro-retirement," a break from work for people younger than traditional retirement age.
Mineral Point was listed at 109 in a survey by Careerminds, a global career development firm, to find out where they'd most like to spend their micro-retirement.
"The results show a strong lean toward places that offer calm, nature and room to breathe," the company said. "The destinations people are drawn to aren't flashy or fast — they're thoughtful, quiet and rooted in nature or nostalgia."
People who believe they will be working into their 70s are taking time out between jobs to combat burnout and restore work-life balance. The micro-retirement breaks can last a month to a year.
Door County and Lake Geneva were other Wisconsin locations on the list, at 72 and 73.
"Mineral Point's rich mining heritage, artistic spirit and rural tranquility create a deeply fulfilling environment for micro-retirees. Exploring artisan galleries, connecting with the town's creative community and visiting the historic Pendarvis site—open to visitors from late May through the season—bring rhythm and meaning to life in this peaceful countryside retreat," according to Careerminds.
Hawaii, California and Florida had the top cities on the list.
