Hannah, Gary L.



Gary L. Hannah, age 75 of Portage, MI (formally of Mineral Point, WI), passed away on June 12, 2025, from an aggressive form of dementia.

He was born on June 27, 1949, at Dodgeville Memorial Hospital in Dodgeville, WI, to Robert and Betty (Needham) Hannah.

Gary attended Mineral Point Elementary school, Junior high school, and Senior high school graduating with the class of 1967.

He was active in high school sports and band.

After high school, he attended the University of Wisconsin, graduating in 1971 with a Bachelors Degree in Marketing. He was active in Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.

In June of 1978, he married Chrysa (Lukacik) Hannah in Columbus, Ohio.

He married Nancy (Wood) Hannah in Yorkville,IL July 21, 2007.

After college, Gary worked for Junior Achievement and Lions Club International as a CEO.

Through work, he lived in many cities: Sioux Falls, SD, Louisburg, KY, Columbus, OH, Cleveland, OH, Glenview, IL, Pittsburgh, PA and Portage, MI.

Gary is survived by: Nancy (Wood) Hannah, wife, Mark (Kay Yanek) brother, Milwaukee, WI, Marsha Hannah-Rohlf (Robert Powell), sister, Punta Gorda, FL, Mike Smith (brother-in-law) Freeport, IL, Joseph Hannah, nephew, Chicago, IL, Matt (Lisa) Smith, nephew, Katie Smith, niece, Lilly Smith, great niece and Alex Smith, great nephew, Freeport, IL. Tom Hannah, special cousin, Davenport, IA.

He is also survived by stepdaughters, Christine (Stepanski) Mayer, and Kathryn Stepanski. Step-granddaughters: Iona Mayer and Castalia Stephanski, stepbrothers; David Wood, Joseph Wood, Mark Wood and Peter Wood. Step-sister-in-laws: Ann (Bob) Fowler, Cape Coral, FL and Barbara (Roger) Orban, VA, and many nieces and nephews. Plus, the many friends Gary has made over the years. Special neighbors; David (JoAnn) Szybala.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Betty Hannah, wife; Chrysa Hannah, sister Karen Smith and brothers-in-law, Richard Rohlf and John Wood, sister-in-law Jane Eckenrod and many fur babies.

Gary was a very warm, caring, loving, and friendly person and always had a smile. He also loved watching Badger sports and the Green Bay Packers.

The family would like to thank the staff at StoryPoint and the excellent hospice care he received in his final days.

Langland Funeral Home in Portage, MI is handling the arrangements.

The Celebration of Life will be held at The Bridge Church at 2PM Tuesday June 17, 2025.

There are arrangements pending for a “Celebration Of Life” for Gary later this summer in Mineral Point WI - date, time, and place TBD.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Garys’ name to The Bridge Church R.A.P. group or the A.S.P.C.A.
