Waterloo no match for Pointers as they advance to WIAA Division 4 state tournament with game today

Pack your bags because the Mineral Point softball team is traveling to the WIAA State Tournament.

The Pointers eased past top seeded Waterloo 7-0 behind the three hit pitching of freshman Teleigh Bockhop. Bockhop walked one and struck out three.

The Pointers scored a pair of runs in the first, added solo runs in the third and fifth then put it away with a three run sixth.

Maddy Kabat reached on an error and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Aida Tuttle for the first run of the game that would have been enough to give the Pointers their win. But the Pointers were not ready to stop scoring yet.

A second run crossed in the first  when Eliza Ingwell singled and scored on a double steal for a 2-0 lead.

Austy Kinch moved the score to 3-0 with one out in the third when she homered over the centerfield wall.

Kinch then scored in the fifth when she singled and crossed the plate when Jadyn Schultz singled.

The Pointers scored their final three runs in the sixth. Ella Kroll singled and crossed home plate on a hit by winning pitcher Tenleigh Bockhop. Eliza Ingwell’s double then sent in Kabat and courtesy runner Cylin Carey.

The Pointers were seeded #3 among the Division 4 field and will play Mishicot, the #2 seed, approximately 4:30 p.m. today.  That game follows the match-up featuring top seeded Stevens Point Pacelli and #4 McDonnell Catholic.

The championship game is Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

Games are played at Goodman Diamond on the UW-Madison campus.

Several Pointers had two hits, namely Bockhop, Kinch, Eliza Ingwell, Ella Kroll, Ally Baehler and Schultz. Also getting hits were Kabat, Tuttle and Ava Ingwell.

Kinch’s homer along with doubles by Kabat and Eliza Ingwell accounted for the extra base hits.
