Dodgers hoping to break the CC habit soon
It is a habit the Dodgeville baseball team wants to break as soon as possible.
That would be having their season ended by Cuba City. That is what has happened the past three seasons starting with the sectionals three years ago, continuing to the Regional opener last year and continuing this season in the Regional finals. All games were close, 4-2, 2-1 and 3-2 this year.
This season the game started with a pair of runs by the Dodgers and the 2-0 lead held up until the fifth when the Cubans scored three unearned runs. The 3-2 lead held up.
Jayce Halverson led off the bottom of the first getting hit by a pitch. Bryce Crubaugh-Lockard then doubled him home for a 1-0 lead. Crubaugh-Lockard then scored on a single by Jack Graber.
What looked like a possibility of more runs by the Dodgers ended right there as Gavin Vaassen went on to toss a three hit, 11 strikeout effort in 6 1/3 frames. Brayden Johll struck out one in the final 2/3rds.
The three Dodger hits came from Crubaugh-Lockard, Graber and Ryan Gorgen.
Caden Schneider suffered the loss. The sophomore left hander was touched for five hits, three unearned runs with three walks and six strikeouts.
The Dodgers ended the season 20-6 and were the champions of the SWC.
Playing their final game for the Dodgers were Joey Honerbaum, Ryan Gorgen and Sawyer Garthwaite.
