Rideout, Howard R. “Howie”



Howard R. “Howie” Rideout, age 91, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025 peacefully with family by his side.

He was born on May 26, 1934 to Ralph and Verda Rideout. He attended school at Pleasant View School, Plum Grove School and Rock Bridge Country Schools. He graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1952.

Howard was united in marriage to Carolyn Jean Yapp on October 24, 1953. They had 4 children; Bruce, Robin, Mark and Todd.

Howard was employed by GTE and Verizon for 36 years.

If you knew Howard you knew he was a huge baseball fan. He helped coach for the Dodgeville Dodgers for several years. He played baseball for several area teams. He started the Dodge-Point Home Talent team in 1952. He helped coach Little Lague, Pony League, Babe Ruth High School and Home Talent Teams. And lastly the Milwaukee Brewers. He never missed a game on TV. Howard and Carolyn (Carly) made several trips to Milwaukee over the years with friends to watch them play. Howard and Carly also enjoyed 40 years of bowling together and looked forward to the yearly tournaments. He also enjoyed following the Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers.

Every year Howard enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. He several antler mounts hanging on the wall to admire. There were fishing trips every year. He especially enjoyed the fishing trips with his sons, grandchildren and many friends.

Howard was a charter member with the Jaycee’s, Lion’s Club and also a member of the Random Lake Fire Dept.

He was a member of the Dodgeville Methodist Church.

Howard is survived by his children Bruce (Barb), Robin (Stan) McGraw, Mark (Vicki) and Todd (Debbie); his grandchildren Derek (Shen) and Caitlin, Jason (Jodi) McGraw and Bret (Brooke) McGraw, Shelby, Rachel (Reggie) White and Jerad, Matt, Tara (Sam) Salomon, Evan, Brianna, Oliver Benson and Harris, Anthony and Dillon Frick; his great grandchildren Jermalie and Anastasia, Mira and Oakley McGraw, Cohen, Olivia White and Ayden Rideout and Blakely Salomon; his sister-in-law Mary Jane Rideout; his half-sister Eleanor (Hiram) Groover; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Howard was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, his parents Ralph and Verda, in-laws Nevin and Ruby Vivian, brothers LeRoy, Lloyd, Dean, half-brothers Wayne and Blaine, sister-in-law Suzie (Tom) Lang.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2025 at the UNITED METHODIST CHURCH in Dodgeville. Pastor Lorri McGranahan will officiate. Burial will be held in East Side Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville and from 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. on Friday at the church.
