Dodgeville Police Chief Brandon Wilhelm updates the media on the recent homicide that took place in Dodgeville at a press conference Friday, July 18. Gavin P. Thompson, 23, Dodgeville, has been charged with first degree intentional homicide, armed burglary, operating a motor vehicle without consent of the owner and hiding a corpse. The victim in the homicide was Dorinda Segebrecht, 67, Division Street, Dodgeville.
A criminal complaint was filed in Iowa County Friday.
Thompson allegedly took the victim's car after murdering her, put her body in the back seat and drove south through Illinois, Missouri and Nebraska where he was apprehended after crashing her vehicle. He will be extradited to Wisconsin soon and faces charges in Nebraska associated with the chase.
Speaking at the press conference were Wilhelm, Sheriff Michael Peterson and Mayor Barry Hottmann. All expressed thanks for the 27 or so agencies assisting and gave messages of healing for the families involved and the community.
