Public library plans discussed in community meeting

Representatives from the Dodgeville Public Library and HGA, a Madison architectural firm, held a community meeting Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Dodgeville High School and outlined a plan for the proposed library expansion project. Mayor Barry Hottmann assisted during the presentation. Carrie Portz, library director, provided input during the informational meeting. HGA associates presented the library’s renovation design proposal. HGA associates included Kevin Allebach, principal and practice group leader; Kim Workman, architect; and Erica Frederiksen, senior interior designer.

Speakers presented much background information and building details for the library project. Additional community meetings will be planned for future updates. Hottmann referred to financial matters later during the session. The expenses for the library project had reached a $10.7 million projection, but he emphasized the project’s final expenses had not yet been determined and that a fundraising campaign would be planned. The $4.25 million Flexible Facilities Grant, money from Friends of the Library, and a commitment from the City of Dodgeville would help fund the project.

Hottmann provided the City of Dodgeville’s vision statement. “Dodgeville provides a supportive community for families, business, and education, working hand in hand, to develop opportunities at the heart of it all,” he said.
