He was born on December 26, 1938 in Dodgeville to Leo Joseph and Mae Elizabeth (Kosharek) Day. He grew up with his parents and brother and sister in the rural Dodgeville area on the family farm. He attended rural school, and then graduated from the Dodgeville High School in 1956. Norb served in the Army reserves while in high school and until he was married. He began farming with his father in Dodgeville and as a hired hand in Sauk City. He met Florence Milestone, his future wife, at the softball field at the Blue Mounds State Park when their two families were both having family reunions. They were married on September 24, 1960 at the Perry Lutheran Church. They lived on the farm he was working on in Sauk City, then in 1963 they moved to a farm in rural Mount Horeb, and then in 1966 they bought the Sandy Rock Road farm, near where they live now. Norb played softball and bowled. He really loved playing cards and trips to Vegas and Casinos. He was a great fan of Norwegian food, especially Lefse, and the many Norwegian sweets. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Farming was his hobby and profession. He milked cows, raised pigs, and tolerated Florence’s chickens. He had a great sense of humor, and loved his grandkids intensely. He was a good assistant to Florence in Lefse making. Norb was a member of the Perry Lutheran Church.
