Cardinals back on track with win over Benton


Both teams were looking at an all important win.

For Benton it was looking for their first win of the season.

For Highland it was breaking a 10 game losing streak.

When it was over Highland got its wish as they surged past the Zephyrs 69-24 in a Six Rivers West game Thursday.

It was a night that as all Highland. The Cardinals raced to a 41-13 first half lead and they drilled nine three pointers in the game.

Freshman Adilyn Esser led the Cardinals the first half with 14 points and she finished the night as the top scorer with 18.

Senior Kate Tarrell added 16 points with nine the first half.

Also earning double figures for the Cards was Kaitlyn Miller who added 10.

Miller, Kate Tarrell and Esser all  hit a pair of treys. Sumaryn Halverson, Sophie Tarrell, and Celia Oleson all hit one.

Only four Zephyrs scored in the contest. They were led by Ries Stulka with 13.

“This really feels good,” a happy Highland coach Josh Tarrell said after the game.  It feels good.”

It was all abut the execution.

“We did what we needed to do,”Tarrell said. “This goes a long way to helping our confidence.”

Tarrell said he strong play the first half keyed the win.

“Adilyn did a good job getting us going and we also had strong performances by Kate and Kaitlyn. It was a very good win.”
